General Description:
The Sunflower Seed Mix (Helianthus annuus) features distinctive varieties that bring a unique palette of color and charm to any landscape. This mix includes ‘Chocolate Cherry’ with its rich, dark petals, the vibrant hues of ‘Autumn Beauty,’ the soft, creamy tones of ‘Moonshine,’ the deep red elegance of ‘Velvet Queen,’ and the classic ‘Grey Stripe’ for added texture and visual interest. This mix contains all annual varieties that self-sow in subsequent years.
When seeding the sunflower seed mix make sure the area receives full sun at least 6-8 hours. These varieties do best in well drained soils but can survive in chalk, and clay soils. Make sure to keep soil damp but not waterlogged while it germinates for best results. The Sunflower Seed mix does better when receiving regular watering but they can tolerate short periods of drought once established. These plants grow up to 5-6 feet tall. It attract bees, birds, and butterflies. These sunflowers typically bloom from mid summer to early fall. Sunflowers are typically resistant to deer and rabbits but they still might nibble on the leaves and young plants.
If self-seeding is a concern remove spent flowers.
